ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Life in Maasai Mara is no different from to other regions of Kenya and poverty has a significant impact on the quality of life that the Maasai people are able to enjoy. Due to remote location of Maasai communities and limited funds, there is a comparative lack of medical knowledge, supplies and education. This limits the care that can be provided to the rural remote communities and means that the care that does exist is spread very thin among wider community. The Maasai medical placement therefore encompasses a number of fields and professionals are solely needed.
Volunteer work will include; many aspects and volunteer will be flexible and adaptable as on any given day, they can assist with the running of local clinic, administering vaccination, providing support to women during pregnancy, birth and after care, outreaches to communities further fields, counseling and HIV awareness and education through campaigns and when possible, providing HIV/AIDS testing and treatment services. Attending patient. Booking patient, Giving drugs and recording, Attending to pregnant, mother clinic/ family/planning, Giving children injections and weighing, Laboratory services, Comprehensive care center HIV / drug counseling.
ACCOMODATION AND MEALS
Volunteers will stay in the community health centre. Accommodation is very simple, there is running water, meals will be prepared by volunteers.
200 Euro monthly which includes project work and training, housing, all meals, transport from the airport and to the project site, and 24 hrs on side staff support.
